About EVD2.ca

Last updated: April 2026

EVD2.ca tracks every electric vehicle available or coming to Canada. News, government data, pricing, incentives, recalls: all pulled together so you can actually make sense of the Canadian EV landscape.

The idea is straightforward: follow any EV in Canada and get everything that changes about it. Shopping for your first electric vehicle? Watching the Chinese EVs arriving under the new tariff deal? Trying to figure out which province has the best rebate? That's what EVD2 is for.

Founder & Developer

Colin builds tools that make Canadian public information easier to find and use. His work covers AI-powered municipal services, open data platforms, and now electric vehicle tracking. EVD2 grew out of his own frustration researching EVs for a personal purchase, and a hunch that other Canadians were running into the same problem.

What We Do

EVD2 monitors Canadian EV news sources, government databases, and manufacturer announcements automatically. Every vehicle gets its own profile page with specs, Canadian pricing, related news, and links to official sources.

You can follow specific vehicles and get updates when something changes: a price drop, a new government incentive, a recall, a Canadian launch date. The goal is to be the one place you need to check when researching EVs in Canada.

We cover the full range: battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs). That includes established manufacturers and the Chinese EVs now entering Canada under the 6.1% tariff framework.

How It Works

01 — Ingest

We monitor RSS feeds from Canadian automotive news sources, government sites, and EV-focused publications every 30 minutes for new content.

02 — Match

Articles are automatically matched to vehicles in our database using keyword analysis and entity extraction, linking news to the EVs it covers.

03 — Track

Vehicle data is maintained from manufacturer specs, NRCan data, and Transport Canada records. Government incentives are monitored by province.

04 — Notify

Follow any vehicle and get email digests when news breaks. Choose daily or weekly frequency. CASL-compliant with one-click unsubscribe.

Technology

EVD2 is built with Next.js, React, MySQL, and Redis. Article ingestion runs as a separate worker service using BullMQ. The whole thing is designed for VPS deployment with no cloud vendor lock-in.

When AI-generated summaries are available, they're clearly labelled and powered by Anthropic's Claude. AI content is always marked. We never store full article text. We link to the original source.

An Idea Warehouse Project

EVD2 is an Idea Warehouse project. Idea Warehouse is a Canadian studio that builds practical tools to make public information more useful. Other projects include AI-powered municipal services and open data platforms.
